On Tuesday, September 8th, at 6:45 pm, the Bleecker Historical Society will meet at the home of Eliza Darling on Washburn Road in Benson, New York. Darling and her husband live in the remodeled District No. 3 School house for Benson. Prior to its construction, pupils from upper Benson attended a school in nearby Bleecker. When Benson's District No. 3 School was built circa 1851, pupils from both towns attended. Technically, the school was located in the Town of Hope until the formal creation of the Town of Benson in 1860.
Darling will present a history of the school and surrounding area following a brief business meeting. Meetings are open to the public. It is suggested that you bring a lawn chair with you.
